Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has asked to increase the solar power generation in the state. During a meeting of all the senior officials of the Power Department, the chief minister talked about the solar projects. A 32 MW solar project in Pekhubela in Una district has already been installed. Further a 10 MW and .5 MW solar project are in process of construction in Kutlehar and Gagret assembly constituencies,  respectively . 

CM released some statements to boost on-going solar power projects and to identify new sites for future projects. The state aims to focus on increasing job opportunities in the solar industry by engaging youth participation in new projects.

Chief Minister Sukhu said that “climate change was the biggest challenge” and that “green initiatives can play a pivotal role in mitigating the effects of global warming.”

Realising the increasing power demand in the state, the Chief Minister highlighted the importance of solar power with hydropower. He focused towards the benefits of solar energy, including reduced carbon emissions and lower maintenance compared to fossil fuels. Moreover, he noted that solar power projects require minimal maintenance and have a longer lifespan.

Further, the minister said climate change is the most significant challenge and green initiative could play a crucial role in reducing its impacts. He also declared to maintain the state’s government commitment to promote a green industry within Himachal Pradesh,  a strategy aligned with the goal of achieving complete green energy status by March 31, 2026.
