Prime Minister Narendra Modi and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz co-hosted the seventh India-Germany Inter-Governmental Consultations (7th IGC), held in New Delhi.

This high-profile meeting brought together senior ministers from both nations to discuss increased cooperation across key sectors, with an emphasis on sustainable development, innovation, and climate action.

Under the “Growing Together with Innovation, Mobility, and Sustainability,” theme the leaders of both sides stressed the importance of collaboration in technology, migration, climate action, sustainable development, and strategic economic ties.

Ministers from both sides acknowledged that these domains would be crucial in shaping a multidimensional partnership in areas like trade, investment, renewable energy, and sustainable mobility.

India and Germany revised their commitment to the Green and Sustainable Development Partnership (GSDP), which was established in the 6th IGC to encourage climate resilience, sustainable resource management, and overall growth.

Both governments highlighted the progress achieved under the GSDP, which lined up closely with the Paris Agreement goals and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

They expressed a strong intention to work together for ambitious outcomes at the upcoming UNFCCC COP29, particularly on the New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG). Ministers from both sides respond positively to the results of COP28, including the First Global Stocktake on emissions.

One of the prominent outcomes of the 7th IGC was the launch of the Indo-German Green Hydrogen Roadmap. This roadmap targets to support India’s green hydrogen production, usage, and export goals while promoting a more inclusive adoption of green hydrogen as a sustainable energy source in both countries.

India and Germany launched the GSDP Dashboard, an online tool that highlights their progress in renewable energy, green financing, sustainable development, and transparency for stakeholders.

They also signed a Joint Declaration of Intent to boost the Green Urban Mobility Partnership, for sustainable urban transport in India to support inclusive social and economic growth through green infrastructure.

The 7th IGC highlighted renewable energy as a key point to Indo-German cooperation, with both nations renewing their commitment to the International Solar Alliance (ISA).

Germany’s role as a partner in the recent 4th Global RE-INVEST event emphasized its dedication to renewable energy partnerships, providing a platform for green financing and investment opportunities.

In addition, the new India-Germany Platform for Investments in Renewable Energy Worldwide aims to expand renewable projects and strengthen global supply chains in solar, green hydrogen, and grid integration.

They introduced the India-Germany Innovation and Technology Partnership Roadmap to enhance cooperation in technology and innovation, aiming for sustainable growth and climate goals.
