Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma virtually inaugurated a 400 MW solar power plant by ReNew Power in Jaisalmer on Wednesday. Electricity generated by the solar plant will fulfill the state’s demand. CM said that the production of this renewable energy project will play a significant role in making the state self-reliant. Output of 200 MW capacity will start in October.
Increasing renewable energy sources in the power grid will reduce the cost of electricity, resulting in lower tariffs for consumers and government savings. A solar power plant of 600 MW capacity is spread over 2000 acres of Pokhran and Bhaniyana tehsils of Jaisalmer. It is expected that the plant will generate 1,331 million units of electricity and the project offers a tariff of Rs 2.18/kWh.
Diya Kumari, Deputy Chief Minister said, “Not much work has been done in the state for the last five years in the area of energy and water security. In line with the Prime Minister’s vision of Viksit Bharat, we are aiming to make Rajasthan Viksit.” ReNew’s solar project will use solar modules which make the first project of this scale to use solar modules made in Jaipur. It will be a significant initiative for the government’s ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’.
ReNew’s Founder, Chairman, and CEO, Sumant Sinha said that she is proud to complete this project and it will help to supply power to 300,000 households.
ReNew currently operates 4000 MW of its total 10 GW capacity in Rajasthan, said Sinha. In addition to investment of over Rs 21,000 crore, including a 4 GW solar module manufacturing plant in Jaipur. “We are fully committed to Rajasthan when it comes to expanding our portfolio upwards from 10 GW in the next few years,” added Sinha.
