Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) is encouraging consumers to apply for the installation of rooftop solar panels under the program launched by the government PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana to avail of the benefits of solar energy.

The National PM Surya Ghar portal is now adding up around 40 solar panel installers, which can spread the way for rooftop solar in the Kashmir Division.

KPDCL announced a statement that they are aiming to install 36,400 solar rooftops by March 31, 2027. They also mentioned that many consumers have already registered on the national portal and their installations will begin soon with the help of vendors. Consumers interested in the scheme can apply from http://www.pmsuryagharyojana.org

The spokesperson of KPDCL stated that to give more benefits to people, they have decided that solar plants up to 10kWp will not need a Technical Feasibility Report. However, it is also important that panels must be installed on the rooftop only.

PM Surya Ghar Scheme subsidies for residential rooftop solar is 60% of the system which costs up to 2kW and 40 % of additional system cost for systems between 2-3kW capacity. Prices of rooftop solar panels are as follows :

RS 33,000/- subsidy for 1kWp

Rs 66,000/- subsidy for 2kWp

Rs 85,800/- subsidy for 3kWp

The KPDCL’s spokesperson said that households availing of the scheme can save on electricity bills. KPDCL has created a hyperlink of PM-Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana on their website so that consumers can directly go through the national portal and register on the application.

Further, households using solar panels with the scheme can reduce their current electricity bills. Kashmir’s DISCOM is creating awareness camps and IEC campaigns in all the Electric Division.
