Larsen & Toubro (L&T), a top engineering and construction company, is growing fast by expanding into more solar power and battery storage projects in India and other countries.
The company’s Power Transmission & Distribution division is currently handling around 15 to 16 gigawatts of solar EPC projects across countries such as Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Uzbekistan, and India.
The Middle East and Central Asia are moving away from diesel and starting to use cleaner energy sources like solar power.
L&T’s involvement in these countries shows that it is serious about helping different parts of the world switch to cleaner sources of energy.
Along with that, the company is also executing about 10 to 11 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of battery energy storage projects in West Asia. These systems are becoming important to confirm a stable energy supply as more solar power is added to national grids.
In India, L&T has built a solar capacity portfolio of 5.5 GWp, of which 3 GWp is already operational, while the remaining 2.5 GWp is under construction.
The company has also secured a robust pipeline of large solar and battery storage projects from clients like NTPC and SECI.
While solar energy remains the primary focus, L&T also acknowledges the importance of battery storage in balancing the power supply. The company believes that thermal plants will continue to serve as a backup for a few more years, until battery systems are fully developed.
