The Government of Rajasthan has set goals to produce 30 GW of solar power by the end of the year 2025. Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma aims to boost the energy security of the state by decreasing dependency on fuels and supporting the vision of a self-reliant India.
Officials said that in March 2024 the government and NLC India agreed to establish a joint venture for building up a 1000 MW solar plant and 124 MW lignite-based power plant in Bikaner. The project got an investment of approximately Rs 7000 crore.
The Government of Rajasthan recently approved four major solar projects to make the state self-sufficient. These projects are established in Bikaner and Phalodi with a total of 2450 Mw and 500 Mw respectively. Solar projects like these can have major transformations and can attract investments worth Rs 10,000 crore.
Rajasthan is a leader in solar energy production with a total estimation of 142 GW. The government is planning to get 43% of its power from solar energy in 2030 to meet its rising electricity demand. The state has installed a solar power plant of 15,195 MW.
Rajasthan is developing the PM Kusum program to install solar pumps in 50,000 farms and generate 200 MW of clean energy in the next few years.
Solar power can give advantages to farmers by reducing their costs and especially will benefit schedule casts communities. Government is also providing extra beneficial subsidies to farmers. Programs and initiatives make progress in renewable energy installation and boost sources of irrigation in the agriculture sector.
