Reliance NU Suntech, a company under Anil Ambani’s Reliance Power, has signed a major deal with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). It is a 25-year agreement to supply and store solar power using large batteries. This will be Asia’s biggest solar and battery storage project at one location.
The project will provide 930 MW of solar power and also include a 465 MW battery energy system that can store 1,860 MWh of power. This system will help keep the power supply stable, even when the sun isn’t shining.
Reliance NU Suntech will spend up to ₹10,000 crore on this project. It will be completed in the next 24 months. The electricity will be sold at a fixed price of ₹3.53 per unit (kWh). To reach the target, they will build over 1,700 MW of solar capacity.
The company won this project through SECI’s auction in December 2024. It was the top bidder among five big energy companies. In total, SECI had offered 2,000 MW of solar and 1,000 MW of storage capacity in the auction.
To confirm the deal, Reliance Power submitted ₹378 crore as a performance guarantee. The entire process, bidding, winning, and signing, was done in just five months.
Reliance Power said this project is a big step in India’s clean energy journey. It shows the company’s skill in building and managing large power systems. They believe this will help India meet its energy goals and improve its storage systems.
The company called it a “strategic milestone” that proves their support for India’s transition to green energy.
