India’s First Solar-Powered Daytime District: Diu

by | Jun 2, 2025 | News | 0 comments

Diu has achieved an incredible milestone, becoming India’s first district that fully depends on solar energy during the daytime. This accomplishment was highlighted by Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi.

Diu installed 2.88 MW capacity from rooftop installations and 9 MW from ground-mounted systems. He said that Diu has already recovered the money which spent on solar energy over the last 10 years through the use and sale of solar power. This shows that investing in renewable energy will be profitable for you in the long run.

Minister Joshi had a meeting with top officials of the Union Territory to discuss how we can produce solar energy, how it will be supplied, and how we can expand this in the future.

The energy minister also visited the 9 MW Solar Park, which is located in Fudam, Diu. That park plays an important role in the district’s clean energy supply. He said that the solar park has helped cut down the power loss during transmission and distribution. Because of this, electricity prices are low, and it is cheaper for the people.

The Minister also applauded the active leadership of the Union Territory’s Administrator, Shri Praful Patel, whose vision has played a big role in realizing this clean energy transformation.

He explained the importance of fast-tracking the PM-Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, a scheme that aims to provide free electricity to homes via rooftop solar installations.

Diu’s success with solar energy is a perfect example for the whole country,  which shows how solar power can be beneficial.
