The Global Sustainable Technology and Innovation Community (G-STIC) Conference 2024 will be held in the National Capital Delhi on October 22- 23, 2024.
This event brings together experts, policymakers, and innovators to address some of the most critical global challenges on one platform. Organizations from 10 countries, including India, Belgium, China, Brazil, Morocco, Nigeria, South Africa, South Korea, and the United Arab Emirates, will support the event.
TERI and VITO organize the event in collaboration with eight other independent technological research institutes: CSIR (South Africa), FIOCRUZ (Brazil), GIEC (China), JITRI (China), MASEN (Morocco), and NACETEM (Nigeria), STEPI (South Korea), and TII (UAE).
This year’s theme is “Harmonizing Technology, Policy, and Business Pathways for a Sustainable Future and Coexistence.“
G-STIC is one of the largest international conferences that promote dialogue between businesses, policymakers (both public and private), and researchers, creating a bridge between innovation and action.
The 7th edition of this global event will focus on how technology can help solve issues like climate change, resource scarcity, and the need for renewable energy to accomplish the 2030 goals of the Paris Agreement.
Why G-STIC Matters
The G-STIC conference is known for its action-oriented global expertise approach and is crucial when the world is facing side effects of climate change, environmental degradation, and limited resources.
These issues have serious risks to both global economies and communities, and finding solutions for this is the need of the hour. The conference will focus on how we can limit global warming to 1.5°C or 2°C to prevent tragic outcomes for the planet.
The conference will provide a platform for stakeholders from various fields to explore how technology can implement sustainability and will play a key role in this transformation.
The G-STIC community targets to step up the achievement of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which include targets such as zero hunger, affordable and clean energy, and climate action by 2030.
Key Focus Areas
One of the major highlights of this year’s conference is the focus on green hydrogen. Green hydrogen is seen as a critical solution to decarbonizing sectors that are difficult to reduce emissions in, such as steel production and heavy transport.
However, early-stage markets for green hydrogen face challenges like high costs and demand uncertainty. A special session on October 22 will discuss how to create demand for green hydrogen and bridge the “green premium” gap, making sure to bring investment in this promising energy source.
Another key session, scheduled for October 23, will focus on the modernization of power grids. Achieving net-zero carbon emissions requires a balance between integrating renewable energy sources and improving traditional energy systems.
The session will emphasize how smart grids, advanced energy storage, and grid management systems can help us reach this goal.
South Asia’s Role in Sustainability
The conference will also shine a light on South Asia, a region facing dual challenges of rapid population growth and the effects of climate change. With extreme weather events like heatwaves and water scarcity becoming more frequent, South Asia is under pressure to adopt climate-resilient technologies while maintaining economic growth.
The G-STIC discussions will explore how South Asian countries can ensure sustainable development, particularly through low-carbon initiatives.
International Collaboration
One of G-STIC’s primary goals is to promote international collaboration. Experts from around the world, including government officials, civil society members, and business leaders, will be present to share their knowledge and insights, by promoting partnerships across borders, this conference aims to find scalable solutions that can be applied globally.
From policy frameworks to technological innovations, the conference will cover a range of topics that highlight the importance of cooperation in tackling climate change and resource challenges.
In addition to technical discussions, the conference will include multiple sessions on the business of sustainable development. Entrepreneurs, startups, and major companies will examine how to create business models that align with sustainable goals, opening the door to both economic growth and environmental protection.
Conclusion
The G-STIC 2024 conference is expected to play a crucial role in shaping the future of sustainable development. By bringing together leaders from various sectors, the event will push forward the dialogue on how technology, policy, and business can work together to build a better world for everyone.
With the ongoing challenges of climate change and resource shortage, the insights shared at the event could help open the way for more sustainable global solutions.
As the world faces these huge challenges, events like G-STIC remind us of the importance of collaboration and innovation in building a greener, more sustainable future.
