The Delhi Cabinet has approved a new ₹30,000 subsidy for people who install solar panels on their homes. This decision will help more families shift to clean energy and reduce their electricity bills.
The new subsidy will be given along with the existing PM Surya Ghar Yojana, a central government scheme that gives up to ₹78,000 as support. With the new addition, residents in Delhi can now get a total subsidy of ₹1.08 lakh—the highest in the country so far.
The Delhi Government plans to install rooftop solar panels at 2.3 lakh homes in the next three years. The project will cost about ₹50 crore. For every 1 kW of solar system installed, people will now get ₹10,000 from the Delhi Government.
According to the CM’s office, this step is part of a bigger goal to promote renewable energy and make Delhi a greener city. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that with this scheme, an average household can save around ₹4,200 every month on their electricity bills.
This scheme will also help reduce pollution, as solar power does not produce smoke or harmful gases. It is also expected to reduce pressure on the main power grid.
The cabinet also approved other projects in the same meeting, like buying 250 anti-smog water sprinkler machines and 70 mechanical road sweeping machines to help fight air pollution.
This extra solar subsidy is a big boost for families who want to switch to solar power but could not afford it earlier. The Delhi Government hopes this will push more people to adopt clean energy.
