Himachal Pradesh is all set to become the first green energy state of the country, says Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. During the inauguration of the 32 MW Pekhubela solar power project which is constructed on 49 hectares for 220 crore in Una district. CM stated that the government has set a target for Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL) to install 500 MW of solar power capacity.
HPPCL has assigned the construction of three solar plant projects totaling 47 MW, CM mentioned in a statement. He said one of these projects is already completed. On December 2, 2023, Sukhu laid the foundation stone of the Pekhubela solar project.
Power generation on the plant was started on April 15, 2024, and on June 20, 2024, it was officially inaugurated. The project is expected to produce 6.61 crore units of power supply in a year and Rs 19.17 crore as the state revenue at the rate of Rs 2.90 per unit.
Solar project has 82,656 solar modules with electricity being transmitted through the Rakkad- Tahliwal transmission line. As per the statements Pekhubela solar project is expected to reduce 2532 tonnes of carbon emissions every year.
Himachal Pradesh’s government has issued tenders to seven more solar projects with a capacity of 72 MW through HPPCL. Reports of four projects are being prepared which have a capacity of 54 MW, while pre-feasibility reports of ten solar plant projects with a total capacity of 77 MW.
