The 2nd International Conference of Green Hydrogen 2024 (ICGH2024) was held in Delhi. Union Minister Pralhad Joshi announced that India is making a bold move towards green energy by focusing on green hydrogen, with an expected investment of ₹8 lakh crore by 2030.

Union Minister highlighted the potential of green hydrogen in economic growth and increasing energy independence. According to his remarks, this initiative will not only reduce the country’s carbon footprint but also cut down dependence on costly imported natural gas and ammonia.

Joshi emphasized that this mission could lead to savings of up to Rs 1 lakh crore while promoting domestic clean energy.

Hardeep S. Puri, Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, said the goal is to a production of 5 million metric tons of green hydrogen by 2030, with an investment of $100 billion, and a target to add 125 GW of new renewable energy capacity.

This ambitious goal will go with India’s broader vision of becoming a global leader in renewable energy. The government’s strategies for green hydrogen could change energy production by encouraging sustainable practices, reducing reliance on fossil fuels, and cutting down greenhouse gas emissions.

The government is also expecting the private sector companies and investors to play a crucial role in achieving the ambitious investment goal of ₹8 lakh crore. India’s growing energy needs, commitment to sustainability, and green hydrogen mission could set an example for other countries to balance growth in the clean energy sector.

By 2030, India could become a key exporter of green hydrogen, which means it will increase not only economic growth but also the global shift towards cleaner energy sources.
