India’s impressive, growth in solar technology followed by a reduction in the cost and advancement in solar technology has been noticed in the present years. This growth is shaping the future of renewable energy in India. Solar PV having a capacity of 82,637.86 MW has been installed which is over half of the total renewable energy (excluding large hydro energy)
India has installed a solar PV of over 15 GW. showing a strong determination to enhance renewable energy capacity. Over 1.1 GW of renewable energy capacity was installed in the first month of the fiscal year 2024-2025, of which solar energy contributed over 824 MW constituting 75% of the total energy.
Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has stated the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) is back and reliable for government projects. It focuses on reliable solar products. India’s total renewable capacity is 144.75 GW of which Solar and wind energy hold 89%. This record proves India’s leading role in adopting renewable energy.
Solar technology plays an important role in sustainable growth in India and its efforts to overcome climate change challenges. Installation of Ground-mounted solar stands for 65 GW of capacity and an additional 2.57 GW capacity is added under Hybrid Solar Components.
India aims to generate Electricity through rooftop solar panels and to reduce electricity bills. Therefore, the government decided to install rooftop solar panels in every household. Now a solar capacity of 12 GW has been installed in residential areas, businesses, and industrial properties. Rooftop solar power will boost energy security and encourage everyone to contribute to clean energy production.
Solar power will be transformative in rural areas as electricity access is limited. Bringing electricity is very important to improve the living standard in remote areas, to do that, off-grid solar components like solar lanterns and microgrids must be installed with a total capacity of 3.035 GW.
India’s success in solar technology reflects the combination of three factors including being supported by the government through various schemes, technological progress, and growing awareness of the importance of renewable energy. India ranked as a global leader in sustainability and clean energy transition. With solar energy contributing over 56.96% of India’s total renewable installed capacity, Wind power has also made significant development with an installed capacity of over 46,161.79 MW in April 2024, with an additional 275.28 MW installed in the first month of the fiscal year 2024-25. As India continues to grow in solar power, it’s going to shape the future of global renewable energy, this dedication inspires other countries to make a move toward solar energy and its potential.
