Kusum-C Solar Scheme Launch on June 11 in Karnataka

The Karnataka government will officially announce the launch of the Kusum-C solar scheme at Gauribidanur, Chikkaballapur. The scheme’s goal is to convert existing grid-connected agriculture pumps to run on solar power.

This will help farmers reduce their dependency on electricity. They can also earn extra income by selling the power to companies.

The government will help farmers either install solar panels for their pumps or set up the big shared systems, which power many pumps at once.

Energy Minister KJ George said that the government is using the land available for this project because it is a challenge to acquire private land for solar installation. He has directed all deputy commissioners and panchayats to search for suitable plots for the implementation.

In between, Karnataka, near Kempegowda International Airport, also inaugurates India’s first solar-powered EV charge station, which includes reused or restored batteries that have been repaired and tested to work again.

This setup is done by BESCOM and the GIZ (Germany). This facility can charge up to 23 vehicles, with 8 AC charging points operational in the first phase.

This amazing setup stores the solar power for nighttime use. The system works on 60% direct energy and 30% solar energy.  Each unit uses 10 old batteries, and their life is 5–6 years.

Krishna Byregowda, revenue minister, is highlighting the station the value of the 10,000+ EV cabs that travel to and from the airport daily. He announced that more will soon be launched across Bengaluru.

The state is in a lead position in the EV infrastructure race with 5,880 charging stations, and 4,462 of them are in Bengaluru alone.
