Gujarat has installed 35,163 MW of renewable energy, overtaking Rajasthan’s installation capacity, which is 34,611 MW.
This achievement shows Gujarat’s strategic investments across solar, wind, hydro, and bioenergy sectors.
Gujarat’s renewable energy includes 19,421 MW from solar power and 13,515 MW from wind energy. Along with this, the state has also developed small and large hydroelectric projects, generating a total of 2,097 MW, including 130 MW from biomass sources.
While Rajasthan leads in solar power installations, its weaker performance in wind energy has caused it to lose the top position overall.
Along with that reason for this growth is Gujarat’s success in rooftop solar installations. Under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, more than 3.36 lakh rooftop solar systems have been installed across the state. These installations contribute over 1,232 MW of power and save over 1,284 tonnes of coal annually.
It is also possible because of a subsidy of Rs 2,362 crore under the national rooftop scheme. Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) has partnered with industry leaders to set up battery energy storage systems.
These systems aim to provide on-demand clean power for industrial use, support grid stability, and help meet Renewable Purchase Obligations.
Additionally, Gujarat is investing a large amount in grid modernisation. The Green Energy Corridor Phase III project, which costs ₹29,000 crore, will improve Gujarat’s electricity network. This will help to generate 16,500 MW of clean energy across the state.
The project continues the work started in earlier phases and is an important step toward Gujarat’s goal of reaching 42 GW of renewable energy capacity by the year 2035.
