H&H Aluminium built a solar panel frame manufacturing unit worth ₹150 crore in Rajkot, Gujarat. Minister of Jal Shakti, C.R. Patil, inaugurated this plant. The plant has an annual manufacturing capacity of 24,000 MT. This plant supports 6 GW of solar installation. It has created 300+ employment opportunities in the state. The plant is considered one among the largest in India.
If manufacturing is done at its full capacity, the manufacturing unit can generate ₹700 to ₹750 crore annually by sales. Trial production was conducted in June and will be followed by actual production in July.
Uttam Patel, Director at H&H Aluminium, highlighted the Indian government initiative of 14% anti-dumping duty on import of solar panel frames has caused growth of domestic companies. Price and quality were impacting domestic production. With import tariffs, the price of imported aluminium solar panel frames has increased, which allowed domestic manufacturers to produce at competitive prices.
Patel said the company wants to start small and, over time, expand its manufacturing capacity. According to him, the company has an advantage as there are not many domestic players in this niche. The company is looking forward to exporting its product to Europe and America after fulfilling domestic demands in coming years.
The plant’s raw material for manufacturing will be indigenous, but machinery for production is Chinese-made.
India has set a target of installing 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, within which the share of solar is expected to be 280 GW. The government initiative caused domestic demand to increase for solar energy-related products, thereby helping domestic firms in this sector to grow.
