Plastic to Power: Gandhinagar’s Solar Revolution!

India’s energy sector stands out as a story of resilience, innovation, and progress as the year ends. In a series of events, the nation has made remarkable moves across various levels, strengthening its position as a global leader in renewable energy while focusing on local impact through ambitious initiatives.

On the national front, the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Limited (IREDA) added another feather to its cap by winning three prestigious awards at the 14th PSE Excellence Awards

The company earned Gold Awards in the Mini Ratna category for its excellence in corporate governance social responsibility and sustainability efforts. It also received a Silver Award for outstanding operational performance.

CMD Pradip Kumar Das expressed gratitude to his team and reaffirmed IREDA’s role in India’s renewable energy transformation.

Globally, India stands out in its reputation as a key player in solar energy. We are now the sixth-largest exporter of solar photovoltaic (PV) products, with exports increasing to $1.83 billion compared to just $200.8 million in 2013

This exponential growth is fueled by powerful outbound shipments to the United States, which accounted for 96% of the $711.95 million in exports in the first seven months of FY25.

India’s rise in the global solar market reflects its growing influence in clean energy technology.

On a district level, Raichur in Karnataka achieved a groundbreaking milestone by becoming the first district in India to fully power its health centers using solar energy.

The initiative, launched in 2021 in collaboration with SELCO and the state health department, now powers 257 health facilities, saving the state treasury ₹86.4 lakh annually.

The project has transformed healthcare delivery in the region, beyond financial savings with better infrastructure and reliable electricity sources in rural health centers.

These achievements highlight India’s all-rounder approach to renewable energy, in national policy leadership, global market influence, and grassroots implementation.

As the country steps into 2025, it carries forward the spirit of “One Earth, One Family, One Future,” symbolizing its commitment to sustainability and progress on all fronts.
