IKEA, best known for its affordable furniture and in-store cafes, is now stepping into the renewable energy space. The Swedish brand has started offering plug-and-play balcony solar kits in Germany through a partnership with Svea Solar.

These DIY kits allow users to generate their own electricity from the comfort of their balconies. IKEA claims they are among the most affordable all-in-one solutions on the market, with options to expand storage. The goal is simple: reduce energy bills and cut reliance on the grid.

The new kits include EcoFlow Stream microinverters and batteries. One of the starting options, called the Stream Complete Set S, costs €449 and comes with two 450W solar panels and a microinverter. A more advanced version, priced at €1,229, adds a 1.92 kWh battery with a 1,200W AC output.

Svea Solar’s Germany MD said the kits are ready for immediate use and don’t require complex installation. IKEA Family and Business Network members also get a 15% discount, making this one of the cheapest ways to adopt small-scale solar power in Germany.

While currently available only in Germany, IKEA hasn’t ruled out expansion. For now, Germans can pick up a solar kit with their next bookshelf and start saving on power bills right from their balcony.
