On Thursday, the Energy Department’s Single Window Committee (SWC) approved investment proposals of Rs 903.41 crore to install green energy projects with a combined capacity of 102.22 MW. Principal Secretary of Energy Vishal Dev has passed two main wind energy projects and some solar power initiatives in the sixth meeting of SWC.
HPCL Renewable and Green Energy Limited, a subsidiary of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited, will install a 48 MW wind energy project in Umerkote, Nabarangpur district, with an investment of Rs 440.58 crore. Further, ONGC Tripura Power Company Limited will set up a 49.5 MW wind energy project in Astaranga, Puri with a total investment of Rs 440.7 crore which makes the total investment of Rs 881.28 crore.
Likewise, Visaka Industries Limited will set up a 0.72 MW solar project in Maneswar, Sambalpur. In Jatni, Khurda, ITC will establish a solar project of 0.8 MW. AMP Energy will develop a 2.2 MW solar project in Kansbahal, Sundargarh district. Odisha Television Limited will establish a 1 MW solar project in Sarua, Khurda. Total investments for all these solar projects amount to Rs 22.13 crore.
All these projects are collectively generating 102.22 MW, which is a huge development in Odisha’s renewable energy sector. According to Dev, the Energy Department is focusing on promoting sustainable and renewable energy in Odisha through GRIDCO (the state-designated nodal agency).
The SWC of the Energy Department has given an investment proposal worth Rs 3,723.57 crore with 499.48 MW capacity in the renewable energy sector according to Odisha Renewable Energy Policy, 2022. To achieve an ultimate target of 10GW by 2030, the renewable energy department aims to install green energy projects.
Dev reviewed the application implementation and current status of the PM Surya Ghar Yojana. The significance of generating awareness about the scheme is important so that people can avail its benefits. Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) has also provided an update on the scheme’s status in Odisha.
