Ola Without Wheels? Let’s Know About Ola Shakti

Ola Electric, known for shaking up India’s electric mobility space, has just made a bold new move beyond wheels. CEO Bhavish Aggarwal has announced the launch of Ola Shakti, the company’s first-ever residential Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).

Built using Ola’s in-house 4680 Bharat Cells, the Shakti lineup marks the company’s official entry into India’s fast-growing energy storage market, which is expected to cross ₹3 lakh crore by 2030.

With Ola Shakti, Aggarwal says the vision goes beyond transportation; it’s about helping homes, farms, and small businesses store and use energy smarter. The device will be available in 1.5 kWh, 3 kWh, 5.2 kWh, and 9.1 kWh variants, priced between ₹29,999 and ₹1,59,999 for the first 10,000 units. Deliveries are set to begin by Makar Sankranti 2026.

“People assumed our Gigafactory was only for automotive cells,” said Aggarwal. “But the biggest application of our Gigafactory will actually be grid and home energy storage.”

Ola Shakti isn’t just another inverter; it’s a leap in how India manages power. Each system can run heavy-duty appliances like air conditioners and refrigerators while also supporting agriculture, defense, and communication setups. The batteries, built at Ola’s Gigafactory in Tamil Nadu, boast automotive-grade safety, up to 98% efficiency, and zero maintenance costs. They are weatherproof, IP67-rated, and deliver instant 0 ms changeover time, a big step up from conventional lead-acid systems.

Aggarwal highlighted a core problem: solar energy peaks in the day, but India’s demand peaks at night. Ola Shakti, he said, aims to bridge that gap — giving households energy autonomy. With production expected to scale up to 5 GWh annually, Ola’s BESS division could soon surpass its automotive cell consumption, signaling a major strategic shift for the company.

We built world-class battery technology for electric mobility,” Aggarwal added. “Now, Ola Shakti takes that innovation home literally.
