India has reached an amazing milestone in renewable energy. Union Renewable Energy Minister Pralhad Joshi announced that the country’s solar power capacity has crossed 125 GW, making it the third-largest solar energy producer in the world.

Speaking at the curtain-raiser for the 8th International Solar Alliance (ISA) Assembly, Joshi highlighted that solar energy is key to achieving global renewable energy goals. He referred to the CoP28 target of tripling the world’s renewable energy to 11,000 GW by 2030, saying solar power will play the most crucial role.

The ISA, started by India and France, has grown to 124 member countries and is now a major global platform for promoting solar energy. According to the minister, initiatives like PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana have already helped over 20 lakh households get solar power on their rooftops.

The ISA aims to unlock USD 1 trillion in solar investments by 2030, while also making solar technology and financing more affordable worldwide.
