The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) announced that India saw a major jump in solar power installations in July 2025, adding 2,768 MW compared to 1,733 MW in the same month last year, even during the monsoon season.
The ministry’s latest data also shows that the country added 465 MW of new wind energy capacity in July 2025, which is higher than the 419 MW installed in July 2024.
With these additions, India’s total renewable energy capacity has reached 187 GW, not counting large hydro projects.
But if we include this project, then the country’s total non-fossil fuel capacity stands at 237.49 GW.
In the starting four months of the 2025–26 financial year, India added 13,369.58 MW of solar capacity and 2,102.28 MW of wind capacity.
This means India added a total of 15,494.26 MW of renewable energy during this time. This growth shows that the country is closer to its goal of having 500 GW of non-fossil fuel power by 2030.
