Kolkata Police Go Solar: Traffic Guard Goes Green

by | Dec 5, 2025 | News | 0 comments

Kolkata is taking a major step toward clean and affordable energy. The city’s traffic guard has now started using solar power, marking another milestone in the police department’s green journey.

A senior police officer said the new solar setup is already making a difference.
“It is a small step towards a greener future. The electricity generated is enough to power all our basic electrical equipment,” he explained.

This move follows earlier efforts by the Alipore and Sarsuna police stations, which were the first in Kolkata to switch to solar energy back in 2021. Their success motivated other police units to try the same idea. Now, four years later, the traffic guard has also started using solar power, which helps them use less regular electricity and save money.

Officers said the plan is to slowly install solar panels in all police stations across the city, one phase at a time. The goal is to create a more eco-friendly police infrastructure while reducing the city’s carbon footprint.

Kolkata Police say this shift is just the beginning of a much bigger push toward sustainability.
