Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), directed by Mukesh Ambani, has begun work on one of the world’s largest single-site solar projects in Kutch, Gujarat. Anant Ambani announced this project during Reliance’s Annual General Meeting.
This huge project will be built on 5.5 lakh acres of barren land in Kutch, which is nearly three times the size of Singapore.
Anant Ambani revealed that the site will see the installation of 55 megawatts of solar modules and 150 megawatt-hours of battery containers every day, making it one of the fastest solar installations in the world.
Over the next decade, this project is expected to meet nearly 10 percent of India’s total electricity demand. It will also be linked to the sea and land infrastructure of Jamnagar and Kandla, giving a strong push to both solar and hydrogen initiatives.
Reliance plans to use the project to produce green ammonia, green methanol, and green aviation fuel. These products will not only meet domestic requirements but also be exported, positioning India as a global hub for affordable green hydrogen and its variants.
In the long term, the company has set a goal to increase its green hydrogen production capacity to three million tonnes per year by 2032.
