Taiwan is moving closer to its clean energy future with the signing of its largest offshore wind deal to date. Synera Renewable Energy Group (SRE) has teamed up with Century Group for the massive 800 MW Formosa 6 project, set to become the country’s biggest offshore wind farm.
As part of the deal, Century Wind Power will deliver 57 jackets, while Century Huaxin Wind Energy, newly named as a Tier-1 supplier, will offer 180 pin piles. These crucial foundation pieces will support the wind turbines and keep the project on track for a grid connection in 2029.
The Formosa 6 wind farm will be built about 35 kilometres off the coast of Changhua County. Once complete, it is expected to supply clean power to nearly 860,000 homes annually, marking a huge step in Taiwan’s energy transition.
SRE’s Chairperson, Lucas Lin, highlighted the importance of the partnership, saying renewables are now a vital part of the global energy mix and Taiwan’s industries. Century Group Chairman Wen-Hsiang Lai added that the deal secures their local fabrication pipeline until 2028, calling it a major milestone in Taiwan’s offshore wind journey.
Formosa 6 will cover 84 square kilometres and is the first offshore wind project SRE will develop in central Taiwan. It obtained capacity during Taiwan’s Phase 3.2 offshore wind auction in 2024, and it was the first project in that round to complete its administrative contract.
With construction underway, Formosa 6 shows Taiwan’s strong move toward clean energy and its goal to lead Asia in offshore wind power.
