A significant partnership has been formed between AgriVijay, Next2Sun Germany, and Wattkraft India to bring a new kind of solar technology to India’s agricultural fields. This collaboration was announced during the RE-INVEST 2024 event in Gujarat, hosted by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).
Agri-PV systems, a new vertical bifacial, technology, where solar panels can be set up in a way that farmers can grow crops on the same land. This means farmers do not have to lose valuable land to solar panels, as they can grow their crops and generate energy at the same time.
The panels will be placed vertically, and sunlight will hit both sides of the panel, creating more energy than traditional solar panels.
Vimal Panjwani, Founder and CEO of AgriVijay, said that this partnership will help solve the problem of land usage in India, where solar farms sometimes take up more space that could be used for farming. He added that the new technology will allow farmers to continue their work without worrying about losing land for solar energy production.
Next2Sun’s vertical solar technology will be tested through pilot projects across different parts of India. These projects will range from 100 kWp to 500 kWp in size, giving experts a chance to see how well this technology works in different regions.
This partnership will support India’s goal of becoming more energy-independent while reducing its reliance on fossil fuels. The government of India made strong commitments at COP26 to increase renewable energy use and reduce carbon emissions.
With support from both the Indian and German governments, the initiative could become an integral part of India’s plan to meet its energy and environmental goals. This project has the potential to change the way land is used for producing food and energy in the future.
