Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has firmly worked towards sustainability and established itself as a global benchmark. Moro HUb, the green data center, a subsidiary of the digital arm of this authority, “Digital DEWA,” is reviewing the expansion of the world’s largest solar-powered data center.

Situated at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, it holds the Guinness World Record for being the largest solar-powered data center in the world.

It covers 100,000 square meters and is powered entirely by solar energy, the center represents Dubai’s vision of a sustainable future.

The data center is being developed in 10 phases, with a planned capacity of 100 megawatts. It combines advanced digital solutions with renewable energy technologies, fully carbon-neutral making it a key player in Dubai’s drive to achieve 100% clean energy by 2050.

The Uptime Institute is awarding this facility the prestigious Tier-III certification, which reflects a commitment to operational excellence.

Since its inauguration in 2023 by HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, the Green Data Centre has provided next-generation digital services such as cloud computing, cybersecurity, IoT, and AI. It also supports global hyper-scalers and organizations in reducing carbon footprints by offering carbon-free computing solutions.

Recently, HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai DEWA, reviewed the progress of the second phase of the data center’s expansion. Al Tayer was accompanied by senior DEWA officials, including Marwan Bin Haidar, Executive Vice President of Innovation and the Future, Waleed Bin Salman, Executive Vice President of Business Development and Excellence; and Mohammed bin Sulaiman, CEO of Moro Hub.

The ongoing development aligns with the vision of HH Sheikh Al Maktoum to position Dubai as a global leader in the green economy. The world’s largest single-site solar park with a planned capacity of 5,000 MW by 2030, empowers this sustainable phenomenon.

By integrating solar energy with cutting-edge technologies, the Green Data Centre is setting a global standard for sustainable ICT infrastructure, strengthening Dubai’s commitment to a greener and smarter future.
