This Hidden Village in Chhattisgarh Is Now a Global Eco-Tourism Star

Dhudmaras, a tribal village which is located in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar district, is grabbing global attention for its eco-tourism. This is surrounded by the forests of Kanger Valley National Park and the Kanger River.

The village has received two big awards. It was chosen as one of the world’s top 20 tourism villages by the United Nations World Tourism Organization and was also named India’s Best Tourism Village.

One of the main reasons for Dhudmaras’s progress is the use of solar energy by the Chhattisgarh Renewable Energy Development Agency (CREDA)

The village road has two tall solar lights for better visibility at night, and three solar-powered water pumps that give clean drinking water. Solar power has also been provided to the village’s primary and secondary schools, which is helping students study better in a place where regular electricity is hard to get.

Tourism in Dhudmaras is built around protecting nature and supporting the local people. Visitors can take part in exciting activities like kayaking, bamboo rafting, and trekking, all guided by trained guides from 40 Dhurwa tribal families.

The tourist can also stay in homestays. They can enjoy traditional meals and experience the tribal way of life, which gives villagers a source of income. The village has added useful facilities like toilets and waiting areas, making it more welcoming for tourists.

The state’s tourism and forest departments have also played a big role by improving roads and promoting local handicrafts.

These efforts have helped people stay in the village instead of moving away and have also addressed local issues like Naxalism.

Dhudmaras has become a great example of how a village can grow on its own while taking care of the environment.
