This Village Becomes Gujarat’s Fourth Fully Solar-Powered Place

Dhordo village in Kutch, Gujarat, has become fully solar, making it the fourth such village in the state under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana

All 81 homes in the town are now powered by solar energy with a combined capacity of 177 kilowatts, generating about 2.95 lakh units of electricity every year.

This shift will save villagers around ₹16,000 per household annually and bring in over ₹13 lakh each year through savings and surplus power income. The project not only cuts bills but also provides villagers with an extra source of earnings.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated this achievement on September 20 at the Samudra Se Samriddhi event in Bhavnagar, calling it a step forward in Gujarat’s renewable energy journey.

Dhordo, already known worldwide as the ‘Best Tourism Village’ by the UN World Tourism Organisation, has now set another benchmark in sustainability.

The sarpanch, Miyan Hussain, said the project has brought both joy and financial relief to the community.
