The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has launched a start-up innovation challenge worth ₹2.5 crore, which aims to accelerate rooftop solar installation and the adoption of renewable energy solutions in the country.
According to the ministry, the scheme aims to identify and support new and innovative solutions in the renewable energy ecosystem.
MNRE is not the sole implementing agency for the scheme. It is also supported by the National Institute of Solar Energy and coordinated with Start-up India and DPIIT.
This innovative project was launched during the National Conference on Skill Development for the Renewable Energy Workforce. The challenge is open to applications from start-ups across India in the fields of green technology, IoT, AI, blockchain, construction, energy hardware, biotech, and waste management.
Applicants will be judged on various factors such as affordability, resilience, inclusivity, and environmental sustainability.
The prize includes monetary rewards: ₹1 crore for the winner, ₹50 lakh for the runner-up, ₹30 lakh for the second runner-up, and a consolation prize of ₹5 lakh each.
The winner will also receive support from the government and opportunities for pilot implementation, along with mentorship from experts and investors, facilitated under MNRE’s supervision.
