Greece Launched a PV Solar Project

The 550 MW Oricheio PPC Ptolemaida solar photovoltaic park, once completed, will be the largest solar PV park in Greece and among the largest in Europe.

This project is being built on former coal mines and will mark a significant step in Greece’s transition to clean energy. It is also a crucial step for Europe towards its energy independence.

Before the war between Russia and Ukraine, Russia was Europe’s major fossil fuel supplier. The war made European nations realize the importance of energy independence. This is one of the reasons Europe is shifting towards clean energy.

The project is being built under PPC Renewables, a subsidiary of Greece’s utility company, Public Power Corporation. Terna SA, a major construction company, is also involved in this project. Greece is using the NX Horizon solar tracking system, developed by Nextracker.

Nextracker is a US-based solar tracker company selected to supply its Horizon solar product to the Oricheio PPC Park.

The president of Nextracker, Mr. Wenger, said it is an important project for the company, and they are excited to work with the Greek government. They are also looking forward to collaborating with other European countries as well.

It is expected that the solar park will supply 1.8% of Greece’s annual electricity needs. This project supports Greece’s climate goals, which aim for 82% of its energy needs to be met through renewable energy sources by 2030.

Nextracker’s Market Outlook

Nextracker dominates the solar tracker industry globally. The company is among the leaders in the European market. It has shipped around 130 GW of solar trackers across the world. The company has maintained its top global position in the supply group for the last 10 years. It has shipped 28.5 GW of solar trackers. The company holds a 26% share of the global market.
