India secured the 4th rank in solar capacity. To give access to solar energy to all households the government is initiating schemes and programs like Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission, Pradhan Mantri Suryodaya Yojana, etc. India needs to significantly work on more installations to meet its target of 500 GW solar capacity by 2030.
India has now become one of the top leading countries in solar capacity ranking 4th globally with a grand 81.81 GW installation. The power generated from this installation supplies 63.4% of the electricity of India’s renewable energy. This development is due to the expanded framework of solar and schemes and initiatives by the government.
India is boosting its solar journey because of some effective strategies and programs such as the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission. More such new initiatives include the Production Linked Scheme and the Solar Park Scheme, their objective is to manufacture and establish solar panels all over the nation. The newly established Pradhan Mantri Suryodaya Yojana is empowering 10 million low and middle households to acquire their solar panels.
Further, The Pradhan Mantri KUSUM Program and the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana are also providing free electricity on installations of rooftop solar panels. The government is investing approximately 75,000 crores to reduce electricity bills and to create employment opportunities for the increased demand for solar equipment. To overcome the financial barriers of many households, the government provides subsidies to all consumers. They also can take collateral-free loans on installations. This is a great initiative to make solar power more accessible and affordable for households.
India is progressing towards our objective to complete the target of 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by the year 2030 and converting net zero carbon emission by 2070. But still, India needs to boost its installations up to 50 GW in a year, till now the country has installed approximately 190 GW of renewable energy capacity.

Our Perspective
The initiatives by the government are spectacular, it is boosting India’s renewable energy capacity. But still, some loopholes need to be looked at for a better future in the renewable industry which includes cost reduction, access to solar energy can be better, technology should be worked on, and many more. By addressing some of these points India can uplift its growth in the solar industry which will be a great development for the country.
