After successfully completing one year of the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, India now marks another major achievement in its renewable energy journey—the completion of six years of the PM-KUSUM Yojana. Launched on March 8, 2019, by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), the scheme has played a transformative role in the country’s agricultural sector, empowering farmers with sustainable energy solutions.
Objectives of PM-KUSUM Yojana:
- Decentralized grid-connected solar plants on farmers’ land.
- Standalone off-grid solar water pumps.
- Solarization of existing grid-connected agricultural pumps and feeder-level solarization.
Key Achievements in Six Years:
- Over 9.8 lakh farmers have benefited, with 1 lakh more being added each month.
- Installation of 7.3 lakh solar pumps, reducing reliance on conventional power sources.
- The establishment of 431 MW of solar power plants significantly contributed to clean energy production.
- Ensuring assured daytime power supply to farmers, improving agricultural productivity.
- States have tendered over 43 GW of solar capacity and issued Letters of Award (LOA) for 21 MW.
- Rapid installation of solar infrastructure across states, with speed and scale as a priority.
