UP Opens First Solar-Powered EV Charging Station

by | May 24, 2025 | News | 0 comments

Uttar Pradesh took a major step toward clean transportation with the launch of its first solar-powered electric vehicle (EV) charging station in Banthra, under the Sarojininagar constituency. The station was inaugurated by local MLA Rajeshwar Singh, who called the project a “responsibility for Earth’s future, not just an alternative.”

Singh highlighted that India loses over 8 million lives globally due to air pollution every year, with 2.5 million deaths in India alone. He said solar energy is a key tool to fight both pollution and climate change.

While addressing the gathering, Singh also spoke about Earth Overshoot Day, noting that in 1972, the planet’s yearly resource use exceeded its limit by December 23. But in 2024, that date fell on August 1, showing how fast we are using up our natural resources.

Singh shared that Uttar Pradesh currently has over 3.75 lakh registered EVs and offers strong subsidies to promote green mobility. According to him, each electric vehicle can help save 1.5 million grams of CO₂ emissions per year.

If India reaches 30% EV adoption by 2030, Singh noted, the country could save up to $60 billion on oil imports every year.

He also praised Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s solar mission, which aims to grow the state’s solar capacity from 288 MW in 2017 to 22,000 MW by 2030.

The launch of this solar-powered EV station shows how clean energy and transport can work together. It sets an example for other states and pushes India closer to a greener, healthier future.
