The Trump administration plans to make it more difficult for large solar and wind energy projects to be built on public lands. In a new memo, it said that wind and solar farms take up too much space and are not the best use of federal land.
The government wants to allow only those energy projects that utilize the best use of land.
Interior Secretary Doug Burgum called big solar and wind farms “huge, risky, irregular” and said they slow down America’s goal of energy dominance.
This move could delay or stop many new renewable energy projects. Experts from the clean energy industry say that even though solar and wind farms cover large areas, they don’t harm much of the land. Most of the land remains untouched, especially with wind farms.
The Trump administration has already taken many steps against clean energy in the past, such as cutting tax credits for solar and wind. Now, it also plans to put future wind and solar projects under a tougher review process, which will likely slow them down even more.
