The Maharashtra state cabinet has approved a rise in the tax on electricity for industrial and commercial users. The extra money will fund the PM-KUSUM scheme, which gives farmers solar irrigation pumps with 90%–95% subsidies. This scheme will make clean energy more affordable.
Although this move is for Maharashtra, it shows that solar-friendly policies are picking up quickly across India. Companies like Etrica Power, which is already installing solar pumps in Gujarat and Rajasthan, are likely to benefit from these government initiatives.
Commenting on the move, Aditya Singh Poonia, CEO of Etrica Power, said:
“Government support for solar irrigation, through subsidy programs and funding, helps make clean energy affordable for farmers.
Although this step is taken in Maharashtra, it reflects a larger national push for sustainable agriculture, which aligns with our work in Gujarat and Rajasthan. Our goal is to help farmers switch to solar irrigation smoothly and cost-effectively.”
Etrica Power has already installed hundreds of solar pumps in Rajasthan and Gujarat under the PM-KUSUM scheme. These systems are helping farmers water their fields more efficiently and lowering energy expenses.
With more government funding, solar-powered watering is expected to spread even faster in the next few years.
