Uttar Pradesh has become India’s third-largest solar power producer, thanks to a big jump in rooftop solar systems and large solar projects. The rise comes at a time when Ayodhya is rapidly transforming into a model solar city, just before the flag-hoisting ceremony on November 25 marking the Ram Temple completion.
Officials say Ayodhya is seeing fast development focused on clean energy, modern infrastructure, and stronger security. The city, known in ancient times as the “Sun City,” is now working to become India’s first fully solar-powered religious capital.
Under the Ayodhya Master Plan 2031, the city has already been declared a “Model Solar City.” A 40 MW solar plant built by NTPC Green Energy along the Saryu River now supplies 25–30% of Ayodhya’s power needs.
Ayodhya is also developing new green projects like the Museum of the Temple, Greenfield Township, Solar Energy City, Digital Virtual Darshan, and Vedic Forest. Security is being upgraded with 1,200 CCTV cameras, while the new 550-acre ‘Navya Ayodhya’ township includes underground drainage and smart power systems.
The state is also pushing for greener transportation. Tata Power, Reliance, and Adani Group are setting up EV charging stations at 13 public locations, with 10 already running. Under the Green Fund, 15,000 trees will be planted using the Miyawaki method.
Across the state, solar adoption is rising fast. Uttar Pradesh has installed over 2.75 lakh rooftop solar systems under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana and now ranks second in rooftop solar applications in India. Many cities like Lucknow, Varanasi, Kanpur Nagar, and Bareilly are experiencing the fastest growth as more people switch to solar to cut their electricity bills.
