The new analysis was released for Europe and it reported that for the very first time Wind and Solar power have exceeded the power generation from fossil fuels.
According to energy think tank Ember, Wind turbines and solar panels have produced 30 percent of European Union electricity in the six months of 2024. In contrast, fossil fuels have generated 27 percent of power.
Major support by member states to transform from polluting power sources to renewables to meet significant climate targets. Even though electricity demand has increased in the first half of 2024, the use of fossil fuels has reduced to 343 TWh from 500 TWh in 2022.

Data Analyst at Ember, Chris Rosslowe said, “The first half of the year shows fossil generation’s narrowing role in the power sector and gains for renewables beyond temporary variations in conditions,”.
The latest report by Ember revealed that solar and wind energy have generated more power than fossil fuels while meeting electricity demands for 13 EU member states. In some of the countries, they are using more than 50 percent of renewable energy from the total electricity consumption.
