From 4 Hours to 24: Morena Solar Project Set to Power Round-the-Clock

by | Oct 1, 2025 | News | 0 comments

The New and Renewable Energy Department is planning to expand the storage capacity of the Morena Solar Project so that it can supply power around the clock.

At present, the plant can store solar power for only 4 hours. Officials said the capacity will be increased step by step, from 4 hours to 6, 8, 10, and finally 24 hours.

The project recently achieved a record low tariff of ₹2.70 per unit. Once full-day storage is ready, Madhya Pradesh could also supply stored solar power to other states that need it.

Last month, the University of California opened a centre in Bhopal to support solar projects in the state. A senior official confirmed that the university will work with the government to strengthen solar development.

Additional Chief Secretary Manu Shrivastava said the Morena project will grow in phases, and once complete, stored power may even be shared with other states.

After Morena, new solar projects are also being planned in Dhar and Shivpuri. In addition, a pumped storage hydropower project is being developed in Neemuch.

This project will use water pumped to a hilltop reservoir during the day and released at night to generate power, ensuring clean energy is available 24/7.
