Hyderabad Nehru Outer Ring Road (ORR), which is a 158-kilometre expressway, is all set to transform into a solar energy corridor.
The Hyderabad Growth Corridor Limited (HGCL) has proposed a big 100 MW rooftop solar power project along the central median of the ORR. Their aim is to cut carbon emissions and strengthen Telangana’s climate goals.
According to official sources, HGCL will soon appoint consultants to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the project. Once complete, the solar corridor is expected to make a major contribution to the state’s renewable energy capacity.
The generated power will be fed directly into the grid through substations managed by TGSPDCL. Depending on land availability and feasibility, either single or multiple feeders will be used. The project also involves setting up 33 kV lines, constructing bays, and installing modern switchgear and metering systems.
Each TGSPDCL substation along the ORR can handle up to 8 MW of power, while TSPA substations are limited to 5 MW. Interested agencies have been asked to inspect the median and substations before moving ahead with their plans.
This project will not only supply Hyderabad with green energy but also serve as a model for large urban solar adoption across India.
