NLC India Ltd, its getting some attention lately. The reason is their fully owned subsidiary, NLC India Renewables Ltd (NIRL), just signed this power purchase agreement. It’s a long-term one with SJVN Ltd, and this is for a 200 MW wind project. That deal helps build on their partnership. Both are big PSU companies, so this makes sense.
The wind project is part of SJVN’s 600 MW ISTS-connected Wind Power Projects (Wind-2 Tranche), which were awarded through a tariff-based competitive bidding process. The project is expected to generate around 500 million units of clean electricity every year.
The deal with NLC India Renewables and SJVN means they are selling off all 200 MW of power at a set tariff. That gives the company some steady revenue down the line, long-term visibility like that.
And since it’s hooked up to the Inter-State Transmission System, the green energy from this can go to different states across the country. It helps push those national goals for renewables.
This whole thing is also cutting down carbon emissions while boosting the amount of renewable power out there. That is the main point, even if it gets complicated with all the transmission stuff.
NLC India keeps growing its renewable side even while sticking with coal and lignite. They have over 1500 MW in solar now, like those ground ones, rooftops, and even floating projects. It seems like they are pushing hard into this area.
India’s whole renewable capacity hit about 220 GW by March 2025. Wind makes up almost 23 percent of that. In FY25, they added around 4.2 GW of new wind power, which feels like pretty good momentum. The stock for NLC has done over 50 percent returns in the last three years, and the market cap was roughly 33000 crore as of July 2025.
With all this happening in the sector, the deal between NLC India Renewables and SJVN looks positive for green energy down the line. Not sure how it all ties together perfectly, but it signals something good.
