Kakinada to Become India’s ‘Green Hydrogen Valley’, ₹15,600 Crore Mega Project Launched

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has officially declared Kakinada as the “Green Hydrogen Valley of India” after launching a massive ₹15,600 crore Green Hydrogen and Green Ammonia project by AM Green, part of Greenko Group. The project is being built on a 495-acre site in Kakinada and is being described as one of the world’s largest green hydrogen and ammonia facilities.

Speaking at the foundation ceremony on January 17, 2026, Mr. Naidu said the first production of green ammonia, about 0.5 million metric tonnes, is expected by mid-2027, and the company targets 1.5 million metric tonnes per year in total.

The project was proposed by Greenko Chairman Anil Chalamalasetty. Most of the green ammonia produced in Kakinada will be exported to Europe, with Germany being the biggest buyer. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already supported the move during the recent India–Germany green hydrogen agreement.

AM Green will also invest ₹2,000 crore to set up 2 GW of alkaline electrolyzers at the site. Mr. Naidu said the project will help India meet decarbonisation goals, create global attention for Kakinada, and support agriculture since Andhra Pradesh has high nitrogen levels in its soil. He added that the State has a strong coastline and good solar and wind potential, which makes green hydrogen production easier and cheaper.

The Chief Minister also said that power procurement costs could drop from ₹4.80 per unit to about ₹1.19 within three years by prioritizing wind, solar, and hydro energy. He further announced that Andhra Pradesh will deploy its first drone ambulance this year and will receive its first quantum computer in Amaravati within nine months.

Mr. Naidu said Andhra Pradesh has moved from “Ease of Doing Business” to “Speed of Doing Business” and has received 25% of all investments coming to India. Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan, who joined the ceremony, assured full State support for the project along with the Chief Minister.
