The Chandigarh Administration has started a five-day solar awareness campaign in the city to encourage residents to install rooftop solar systems. The camps will be held from February 10 to February 14 under the Central Government’s PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.
The initiative is being organized by the Chandigarh Renewable Energy, Science and Technology Promotion Society (CREST). The goal is to help people understand how rooftop solar systems work and how they can benefit from government subsidies and loan support.
At these camps, residents can get on-the-spot registration support, guidance on bank loans, and information about subsidies for installing solar panels. Representatives from banks and CREST-approved solar vendors will also be present to assist visitors.
The camps are being held at several locations across the city, including Sector 17 Market, Elante Mall, Sector 22 Shastri Market, Mauli Jagran, and Kishangarh.
Under the PM Surya Ghar scheme, households can receive subsidies of up to ₹78,000 for installing rooftop solar systems. The scheme also offers low-interest loans, which are up to 6%, a single-window support system through CREST, and Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) of subsidies into beneficiaries’ bank accounts.
Residents can apply online at www.pmsuryaghar.gov.in or visit the CREST help desk at the camp venues for assistance.
