Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced that the state has set a new milestone in renewable energy pricing, achieving a record-low tariff of ₹2.70 per unit for solar-plus-storage projects in Morena.
The state has awarded 600 MW solar capacity and 880 MWh storage units after competitive bidding. Ceigall India Ltd quoted ₹2.70 per unit, while ACME Solar Holdings Ltd quoted ₹2.764 per unit.
This will be India’s first solar-plus-storage project to guarantee 95% annual availability, ensuring power supply during both day and peak evening hours.
Each unit will generate 220 MW from solar panels during the day and use batteries to deliver power in the evening. In the mornings, the batteries will draw cheaper power from the grid to stay charged.
According to officials, this is the lowest renewable energy tariff in India so far, and the first time firm, round-the-clock green power will be available below ₹3 per unit.
The project is expected to become a model for future renewable projects, making solar energy as reliable and commercially viable as conventional power.
